Nilavarai or Swarnamukhi or Sunamukhi are leaves from a tree popularly known as Senna.
Its leaves are dried and powdered to be used daily to strangthen immunity and cure many diseases.
Nilavarai is medicinal plant used by Indian sages and seers. It has been neglected till now and came into limelight recently.
Its names in different languages :- Latin – Cassia senna, Tamil – Nilavarai, Telugu – Nela Tangedu or Sunamukhi, Canarese – Sunnaamakki, Malayalam – Sunnamukhi, Urdu – Sana.
It is a tropical shrub and grown in India, China and Africa mostly. It tastes bitter and acrid and increases body heat. It should be used mildly and sparingly as medicine.
Nilavarai Medicinal Usage
For strengthening all organs in body : Nilavarai (sunamukhi) powder is available in market.
if not, collect Nilavarai(sonamukhi) leaves and make its smooth powder.
Take 2-3 gms of this powder along mixed with 1 spoon honey and 250 ml of water, early in morning on empty stomach.
Continue this for 1 year to gain healthy, immune and strong body.
Chest Pain : Gas in stomach can pump up and cause chest pain for many.
For this, take 3gms of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder and mix with 1 spoon of sugar or candy sugar powder and consume along with 250 ml of water in morning before breakfast.
If necessary, repeat this in evening too before dinner.
This will remove excess gas in abdomen and chest regions.
Body pains : Take 5gms of sunamukhi powder mixed with 1 spoon cow ghee.
Repeat this before every time you take food.
Doing this twicee a day will make you feel better and remove all pains.
This also helps digestion and eases bowel movement.
For strong Lungs : Having more cold food like soft drinks, ice creams, cold water from refrigirator, chocolates stored in fridge, cold and reheated food at nights will make our lungs weak by generating excess phlegm.
To cure this, add 3 gms sunamukhi powder to 1 cup of Pomegranate (Anar) juice and consume it twice a day.
This will clean lungs and also reduce asthma.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) for Excessive Sweating : Dissolve 3 to 6 grams of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder in half cup of buttermilk made from cow milk and take twice
regularly to get rid of excessive sweating.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) to cure Constipation : Mix 100 grams of old jaggery and 50 grams of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder and grind well in a mortar and pestle.
Preserve it in air tight container and consume 5 grams before sleeping at night. It cures constipation soon.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) for Mental Strength : Mix 3 grams of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder in a spoonful of crushed ginger juice and take early in the morning regularly to have improved mental strength and also good eye sight.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) for Foul Smell from Mouth : Consuming seedless dry date along with 3 grams of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder removes foul smell from mouth.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) for Premature Greying of Hair : To stop premature greying of hair consume mix of sufficient Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder along with 2 to 3 grams of powder or juice of bhringraj leaves.
Nilavarai(sonamukhi) for Glowing Body : Daily consuming 3 grams of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) powder mixed well in cow milk early in the morning. Improves physical strength and skin glow.
Sunamukhi for kidney Stones : Take 3 gms of sunamukhi powder and add 150 ml of yellow cucumber seed’s juice.
Consuming this twice per day will melt down all types of stones in kidneys.
Side effects & Precautions for using Nilavarai(sonamukhi)
Consuming large doses of Nilavarai(sonamukhi) causes diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
Prolonged usage results in weak bones, aching joints and loss of appetite.
It may change color of urine to red or brown.
Menstruating and pregnant women should avoid using it.
Indiscriminate usage causes constipation the very reason for which it is used.
Children below the age of 12 years should avoid usage.
